The E. coli strain MC2 Rif^R was incubated in bovine digestive contents under conditions described in the Materials and Methods section. Each time point is the mean of at least three independent experiments. Statistical analyses were performed with two-way ANOVA with the Bonferroni post-hoc test: growth yield in small intestine content was significantly different from the other DC (p < 0.001); growth yield in colon and rectum contents was significantly different from that in rumen content (p < 0.05).
