One or more annotation servers, shown above as Ensembl, Whitehead, and the Sean Eddy Laboratory, provide annotations relative to the reference sequence. The client, at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in our example, fetches data from multiple servers and automatically generates an integrated view.
