Different types of Alternative splicing (AS) events. (a) Exon skipping splice type happens when an exon is removed with its intron-flanking sides. (b and c) Alternative 5′ splice site and alternative 3′ splice site selections are the splicing types of exons with more than one splice site at one end of an exon. If both ends of an exon are alternate splice sites, the alternate 5′ and 3′ splice site selection occurs. (d and e) Alternative promoters and alternative terminators are in transcripts with more than one initiator or terminator exon. (f) Retained intron splicing type occurs when an intron remains in final transcript. (g) Sub-RI splicing is partial intron retention.
