Binding of tau isoforms to polymerized microtubules. A) Porcine brain tau isoforms can be fractionated by gel electrophoresis into eight distinct peptides. The odd-numbered residues are phosphorylated whereas the even-numbered ones are not. B) Odd-numbered tau peptides can bind to microtubules and they become even-numbered upon alkaline phosphatase treatment (see [11]).
