The illustration represents the mechanism of FC-99 in relieving liver injury in mice that were challenged by CLP surgery. The brown arrows indicate the route of peripheral blood monocytes that were recruited to the liver as well as the inhibition of their differentiation into macrophages. The black arrows indicate the effects of FC-99 on mononuclear cells that result in the induction of apoptosis. The small red print represents the markers of immune cells. For example, Ly6Chi and Ly6Clo demonstrate the subsets of monocytes, respectively, which express the Ly6Chi or Ly6Clo markers, whereas F4/80- and/or F4/80+ represent the monocytes and macrophages, respectively. The arrows indicate stimulation, while the straight lines represent inhibition.
