Determination of a suitable dose for i.c. challenge. Wild-type C57BL/6 (A) and BALB/c (B) mice were infected with 1 × 10², 1 × 10³, or 1 × 10⁴ pfu Zika virus (ZIKV) i.c., and their weight, health, and survival were monitored daily for 16 days. Groups of mice injected with 1 × 10³ pfu ZIKV i.v. or PBS i.c. were included for comparison. A weight loss of 25% or more of initial body weight was used as humane end-point. n = 5 mice/group, *p < 0.05.
