The spleen is much more permissive than the brain to the passage of heterologous prions: percentage of diseased animals and western Blot-positive tissue of BSE (A) or CWD (B) prion agents inoculated intraperitoneally to bovinized, humanized or ovinized mice. Spleen and brain were collected at the death of the animals. Tissue infection was diagnosed upon the detection of PrPSc by western blot. From [85].
