Proposed model for the aggregation pathway of Ure2. Native dimeric Ure2 forms relatively disordered oligomers driven by hydrophobic interactions and either dissociates back to the native state or undergoes conformational conversion to form more compact oligomers containing β-sheet structure, which can in turn convert into growth-competent fibrillar species. Fragmentation of fibrils then contributes to their proliferation.
