FIG 1.
Confocal micrographs of Euscelidius variegatus-infected leafhoppers' midguts immunolabeled with anti-VmpA PAbs. The midguts of leafhoppers that were fed healthy broad beans or FD-P-infected broad beans were observed with fluorescent and differential interference contrast (DIC) microscopy. Actin was labeled with Alexa 568-phalloidin (red), nuclei were labeled with DAPI (blue), and FD-P was labeled with anti-His6-VmpA PAbs and secondary Alexa 488 antibodies (green). Arrows indicate internal phytoplasmas, and arrowheads show the phytoplasmas that were located close to actin filaments.
