Seasonal gene expression patterns in woody tissues of Norway spruce. Hierarchical clustering of genes is shown for all replicates across one season. Samples are ordered by sampling date. Expression values were library size corrected and variance stabilized (∼log₂). The legibility of the heat map was improved by saturating the expression data between log₂ values 3 and 10. The ribbon at the top of the heat map indicates the tissue type: magenta for xylem and green for cambium/phloem. Sampling months are marked by colors below the heat map: green, summer; brown, autumn; blue, winter; and yellow, spring.
