Reactive oxygen species detection in fibroblasts from SHRSR_KO-Ndufc2. Both at baseline and during all points of the time-course experiment, the SHRSR_KO-Ndufc2 cells generated greater amounts of cytoplasmic (A) and mitochondrial ROS (C) compared with those produced from the SHRSR_WT fibroblasts (Student t test: *P < 0.05 for all experimental points). No significant increases of ROS levels (B and D) were documented in both fibroblast cultures during high-salt exposure (one-way ANOVA with test for linear trend: ^ and #P = NS).
