—Phylogenetic mapping shows variation of chloroplast genome size across lineages. The amount of conserved plastid protein-coding regions and ribosomal + transfer RNAs is fairly constant among species, and differences in genome size are mostly accounted for by intergenic space, introns, and freestanding ORFs.
