Overview of radiotherapy and L19-IL2 induced anti-tumour effects. (1) Radiotherapy induces immunogenic cell death, thereby releasing DAMPs and antigens (2), creating an in situ vaccine. Tumour-associated antigens are picked up by dendritic cells (3) that migrate to lymph nodes to activate CD8+ T cells (4). L19-IL2 can stimulate the proliferation of tumour specific CD8+ T cells (5) that can now target the irradiated tumours (6), non-irradiated tumours (7) and prevent the formation of new tumours months after tumour cure and termination of the treatment (8).
