The adult expression of ME capabilities in a network trained in the dark-reared paradigm in which a generic associative learning rule was implemented (i.e., the training thresholds for the noncompetitive pathways have been lowered) so that activation of only one of the presynaptic elements was required. “Breaking” the network in this way produced results that no longer accurately reproduced the biological results. This network integrated all sensory combinations instead of only the AS combination. Conventions are the same as in previous figures.
