  • Irreversible attachment of bacteria to host proteins

  • Bacteria produce mucopolysaccharide coating to establish a biofilm

  • The biofilm then protects bacteria from host defenses and antibiotics,

  • Bacterial shedding (detachment) to create an expanding biofilm
