Inclusion criteria Significant history of coronary artery disease during their lifetime:
  1. Angiographically proven disease including at least 1 major vessel with evidence of disease

  2. Prior myocardial infarction (>3 months)

  3. Abnormal coronary intravascular ultrasound for at least 1 vessel

  4. Previous bypass surgery or post percutaneous intervention (> 1 year)

  5. Positive nuclear scan or exercise stress test)

Documented history of myocardial infarction within the previous 8 months
Common exclusion criteria
  1. History of unstable angina or acute MI within the past week

  2. Severe comorbid medical or psychiatric disorder that could interfere with study results, such as cancer, renal failure, current alcohol or substance abuse or schizophrenia

  3. Uncontrolled hypertension and/or deemed to be unfit to withhold anti-ischemic medications by study cardiologist

  4. Weight over 400 lbs

  5. Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Study-specific exclusion criteria Individuals with inflammatory diseases (like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus), on dialysis, or having any organ transplant excluded No such exclusion criteria
