(A) Implantable probe design using angle-polished fibers – final entry angle is ~ 60° from normal. Aramid sutures are potted within the grey epoxy block. (B) Implantable probe design using silvered RA prisms potted in epoxy – also potted within the epoxy is a collar of polytetrafluoroethylene for securing to tissue or vein/artery. Signal levels from each device were similar, as were ad-hoc DCS evaluations on the human thumb.
