GILZ, through interactions with different transcription factors (as explained in the text), affects the cells of the immune system, thus mediating the physiological and pharmacological effects of GCs. The final outcome of GILZ expression is immunosuppression, which is the desired effect when GCs are administered for therapeutic purposes, but strongly affects tumor growth with an effect that involves both systemic and tumor microenvironment immune cells
