Complement activation of human plasma induced by the nanostructures. Different concentrations of the prototypes were tested by Western blot: 10, 100, and 1,000 µg/mL. Phosphate-buffered saline and cobra venom factor (CVF) were selected as negative and positive controls. Abbreviations: NE, nanoemulsion; CS NC, chitosan nanocapsule; PARG NC, polyarginine nanocapsule; PR NC: protamine nanocapsule. Bands corresponding to the C3 protein and C3 split products are indicated. Molecular weight controls are expressed in kilodalton.
