Masitinib selectively decreases the self-administration of cocaine at the unit dose of 250µg/infusion. After 2 weeks of daily training to self-administer either cocaine, heroin or food, rats were administered masitinib or its vehicle daily (grey panel). As compared to vehicle, masitinib treatment resulted in a marked and sustained reduction in cocaine intake (a). In marked contrast, masitinib treatment had no effect on the maintenance of heroin intake or the number of food pellets earned as compared to vehicle-treated rats (bc)
