Dimensions of the probe and its insertion into the 0.3 cm3 syringe cavity used for calibration (top panel). Calibration of the probe at three different signal levels (80, 88, and 94 dBSPL) developed to record the impedance (Zec) at 800 Hz in the reflex recording ear (bottom panel). The probe was sealed into the cavity and the sound pressure was recorded, converted to a DC signal, and amplified. The volume of the syringe was changed and the voltage from the microphone recorded. Estimates of the impedance of the syringe were obtained from a mathematical model of a closed cylinder with viscothermal losses.
