Uptake of ³²Pi by tobacco cells after pretreatment with SA and analogs. Tobacco cell cultures were pretreated with 0.5 mm SA, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), 5-chlorosalicylic acid (5-CSA), 3-hydroxybenzoic acid (3-HBA), or 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA) for 30 min followed by addition of ³²Pi. After labeling for 10 min, the cells were washed three times with cold medium, and the radioactivity retained by cells was determined by scintillation counting and reported (+se calculated from three independent experiments).
