MCAT mice are protected against bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. WT and MCAT mice were treated with a single IT-instillation of 50 μL saline or 0.025 U bleomycin in 50 μL saline and three weeks later the lungs were harvested for H & E (A), Trichrome staining (B), lung collagen levels (C) and lung fibrosis scores (D) as described in the METHODS. Squares on the upper rows were enlarged in the respective lower rows. Upper row, scale bar=0.05 mm; lower row scale bar=0.1 mm. *p < 0.05 vs. saline, p < 0.001 vs. WT+bleomycin, n =4–6.
