Evaluation of morphological changes in NSC-34 motor neurons exposed to different concentrations of Eruca sativa seed extract (ESE). Hematoxylin and eosin staining showed no cytotoxicity with the concentrations 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 µg/ml of ESE. Only the highest concentration (0.4 µg/ml) showed a moderate cytotoxicity. Given that the extract was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), we evaluated also a concentration of DMSO comparable to that used for the highest concentration of ESE, but no cytotoxicity was observed.
