miR-16-5p in purified RNA is stable for up to 1 week at room temperature. Aliquots of total plasma RNA isolated from platelet-poor plasma (different batches from those shown in Fig. 1) were frozen at − 80 °C, then thawed and incubated at room temperature for 0, 1, 3, or 7 days, or thawed and treated with RNase A (Rnase +). qPCR for miR-16-5p was performed.
