Yeast cells were cultured in synthetic medium in the absence of NaCl or in the presence of 0.6 m NaCl and collected at an OD600 of approximately the amount of polyol in the medium and in cells was determined. Values (%) are the amount of polyol in the cell divided by the total amount of polyol produced. Strains were labeled as in Table I.
