Table 3.

Coherent neurons in the NAcSh that convey information about sucrose-concentration.

All coherent neurons Coherent and taste-coding Direction of modulation
n (%) Coherence mean±sem n (%) Increased Decreased
Gustatory (N = 421) 32(7.6) 0.46 ± 0.01 5/32(15.6) 4 1
Start (N = 304) 27(8.8) 0.44 ± 0.01 4/27(14.8) 3 1
Start/Stop (N = 265) 25(9.3) 0.43 ± 0.01 5/25(20) 5 0

The N's are the total number of neurons recorded in each test. For “All coherent neurons” n's are the number (%) relative to total neurons. For “Coherent and taste-coding” the (%) are relative to all coherent neurons detected. The coherence values are presented as mean ± sem. The number of taste-coding neurons that Increased or Decreased their coherence as a function of sucrose concentration is also shown.
