K. pneumoniae forms robust biofilms on abiotic surfaces, but flat structures on lung cells. K. pneumoniae strain INP15 (A), RGV2 (B), or 4/484 (C) was incubated for 24 hr on an abiotic surface (left panels) and on immobilized human lung cells (right panel). Bacteria were stained with an anti-K. pneumoniae antibody followed by an Alexa 555 conjugated secondary antibody and DNA was stained with TOPRO3, which was pseudocolored in green (left panels) or blue (right panels) for better visualization.
