Cohort diagram. Participants receiving suppressive antiretroviral therapy (ART) were enrolled into step 1 and underwent lymph node (LN) and adipose tissue biopsies. If adequate tissue specimens were obtained, they were enrolled into step 2 and randomized to receive telmisartan therapy or no additional drug. All participants were instructed to continue ART.
