The linear heart tube is shown at the start of looping. The future ventricles lie in serial anterior to a common atrium. Blood enters a posteriorly located common atrium and flows in an anterior direction (dashed arrow) through the inflow tract, left ventricle, right ventricle, outflow tract and aortic sac.
