TBP-2 induces inflammation and endothelium dysfunction by the p38 MAPK-NF-κB signaling pathway. S100B and HG induce TBP-2 to overexpress. Through the p38 MAPK-NF-κB signaling pathway and modifications of histone H3 lysine K9, overexpressed TBP-2 brings about inflammation and endothelium dysfunction. On the other hand, the activation of the TXNIP-Drp1-Parkin-OPTN (p62/SQSTM1) axis may heighten mitophagy, which will ultimately lead to the reduction of mitochondrial number. In the end, these conditions lead to diabetic retinopathy.
