Data are uncorrected group medians (IQR). Exact p values are shown for variables that satisfied the assumptions of the linear regression model. For other variables, parametric assumptions were not met and therefore p<0·05 or p>0·05 and p<0·01 or p>0·01 was inferred from bootstrapped 95% and 99% CIs. Differences in means, 95% CIs, and p values are adjusted for age, intelligence quotient (Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence total score), and test set. Robust standard errors accounted for clustering of participants within families. Secondary outcome measures for each of the three tests were 7-day recall and recognition scores, with the primary outcome measure being 7-day recall divided by 30-min recall. For the list and story, learning score refers to the score from the final learning trial.
