The dotted and dashed lines correspond to theoretical OCD spectra for an ideal α-helix aligned parallel (dotted) and perpendicular (dashed) to the membrane normal; the spectra correspond to transmembrane and peripheral helical peptides, respectively. The significant difference in helicity (7% versus 56%) resulted in the variation in the theoretical curves for GWALP23 in Ld (B) and Lo (C).
