The two distinct image types: (a) an image of a retina afflicted by Stargardt disease, and (b) an image of a healthy retina. When image patches are considered in isolation, they cannot always be reliably classified. However, when global context is considered (larger images) it is obvious that the patch in (a) is not a cone, but the patch in (b) is a cone.
