Unbalanced inflammatory pro-resolving responses in phosphatidyl inositol 3 kinase-gamma (PI3Kγ) knockout (KO) infected with influenza A virus. WT and PI3Kγ KO mice were instilled with phosphate-buffered saline or WSN virus and euthanized at 7 days after infection (representative of two experiments showing n = 4–7 mice per group). FACS analysis in airways leukocytes showed (A) numbers of neutrophils (F4/80⁻Gr1⁺CD11b⁺) and (B) resolving macrophages (F4/80^medCD11b^low). Levels of (C) TNF-α, (D) CXCL1, and (E) IL-6 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and from (F) IL-10 in the lungs were assessed by ELISA.
