Figure 7

Unbalanced inflammatory pro-resolving responses in phosphatidyl inositol 3 kinase-gamma (PI3Kγ) knockout (KO) infected with influenza A virus. WT and PI3Kγ KO mice were instilled with phosphate-buffered saline or WSN virus and euthanized at 7 days after infection (representative of two experiments showing n = 4–7 mice per group). FACS analysis in airways leukocytes showed (A) numbers of neutrophils (F4/80Gr1+CD11b+) and (B) resolving macrophages (F4/80medCD11blow). Levels of (C) TNF-α, (D) CXCL1, and (E) IL-6 in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and from (F) IL-10 in the lungs were assessed by ELISA. Results are presented as mean ± SD. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, and ***p < 0.001, when compared with each Mock group; #p < 0.05, ##p < 0.01, and ###p < 0.001, comparing PI3Kγ KO- to WT-infected mice (one-way ANOVA, Newman–Keuls).
