Hydrogen sulfide inhibits age-related increase in albuminuria and it decreases serum cystatin C in old mice. Mice, 18–19 months of age, were randomized to receive NaHS in drinking water or water alone (control) and followed for 5 months. (A) Urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR) increased in control mice during the study period which was prevented by NaHS (a) p < 0.05, (b) p < 0.01, and (c) p < 0.001. (B) Serum cystatin C was lower in NaHS-treated mice vs. control mice at the end of the study. Data from control (n = 13–20) and NaHS-treated mice (n = 18–20) are shown as mean ± SEM in histograms
