Table 1.

Spatially selective populations in LIP/MIP, FEF, and SC

No. of Spatially Selective Cells
No. of Recorded Cells Sensory period Motor period Sensory and motor period
LIP/MIP 275 125 (45%) 121 (44%) 69 (25%)
FEF 324 174 (54%) 160 (49%) 117 (36%)
SC 179 162 (91%) 161 (90%) 153 (85%)

For each area (LIP/MIP, FEF, and SC) and each time window (sensory and motor periods; see materials and methods), the number of spatially selective cells is indicated, with percentages in parentheses. A cell was considered spatially selective if its response was modulated by target location in either head- or eye-centered coordinates, according to two 2-way ANOVAs with target location and fixation position as the two factors (one 2-way ANOVA for target locations defined with respect to the eye and one 2-way ANOVA for target locations defined with respect to the head; target location main effects, P < 0.05; interaction terms, P < 0.05).
