Because six patients had missing data because of early death (within 7 days), change in serum HMGB1 was ultimately evaluated in 30 patients. An additional four patients in the rhTM group died during the period from day 7 through day 90. In the control group, no patient died within 7 days; however, seven patients died during the period from day 7 through day 90.
