Excessive alcohol drinking induces increased expression of Il6 and Il10 gene transcripts in peripheral blood monocytes. CD14+ monocytes were separated from other polymorphonuclear cell with the Human Pan Monocyte Isolation Kit. Total RNA from CD14+ monocytes was reverse transcribed and analyzed by qRT-PCR for expression of monocyte/macrophage differentiation markers. The relative expression of Il6 and Il10 gene transcripts were significantly increased in the excessive drinkers (ED) compared with controls (C) (Il6, **P<0.01; Il10, *P<0.05).
