Signaling schematic of the putative pathways that may link the core circadian clock with key signaling mechanisms mediating muscle growth processes in skeletal muscle. Further studies in human skeletal muscle are warranted to ascertain: (a) the potential regulation of the core clock/circadian genes by exercise sensitive signaling proteins and transcription factors in skeletal muscle cells; (b) the potential for the circadian clock to regulate myogenic and translational processes previously associated with heterogeneous anabolic responses following resistance training.
