Schematic representation of ERα classically regulating ERRβ and role of ERRβ in cell cycle regulation through p18 and p21cip. In the presence of estrogen ERα gets activated and forms a heterodimer by interacting with ERRβ. ERα alone or along with ERRβ in the form of heterodimer binds to the promoter region of ERRβ and up-regulates its promoter activity. ERRβ up-regulates cell cycle markers expression such as p21cip and p18. p21cip, p18 are cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors and halt cell cycle. Thus, our study suggests that the cell cycle regulating role of ERRβ by up-regulating p21cip and p18
