FIG 3

Attachment capabilities of ΔsagS mutant strains expressing sagS or sagSmut. Evaluation of attachment to a polystyrene surface by crystal violet staining following 24 h of growth under shaking conditions. Attachment is expressed relative to the ΔsagS/pMJT-sagS mutant. PAO1 and the ΔsagS/pMJT-1 mutant were used as controls. All assays were repeated at least three times, with each repeat consisting of 8 technical replicates. Error bars denote standard deviation. Attachment capabilities are ranked as ΔsagS like (significantly different from PAO1; P < 0.01), wild-type like, or intermediate (significantly different from PAO1 and ΔsagS, with relative attachment ranging from 0.7 to 0.8; P < 0.01).
