(A) The total K⁺ current flowing across the perisynaptic membrane (I_KPSC,mem). During neural activity (Start = 0.1 min) K⁺ in the PsECS is removed by NKA and there is a net influx of K⁺. When neural activity stops (1min), K⁺ is released back into the PsECS mediated by the background K⁺ channel. This influx/efflux can be seen in A column 4. (B) K⁺ current flowing along the process (I_KPF).
