PCA administration decreases the intracellular free zinc level in the CA1 region. Ischemic neuronal death is promoted by zinc release and accumulation. However, oral treatment with PCA for 3 days reduces the intracellular free zinc level. (A) displays photomicrographs of TSQ fluorescence staining in CA1. After insult, the intracellular free zinc levels were increased. However, we confirmed that zinc levels were significantly decreased in the group that was administered PCA after ischemia.
