a, Measured images of the electron beam on the MCP-detector with and without the terahertz deflection field. b, Time-dependent deflection diagram measured by varying the delay between the arrival time of electron bunch and the deflecting terahertz pulse for initially compressed and uncompressed electron bunches. This demonstration was performed with the Yb:KYW laser and a bunch charge of ~1 fC, except for the maximum streaked beam (a), where a bunch charge of ~10 fC is used in order to get a long pulse for demonstration. Deflectograms using the Yb:YLF laser can be found in the supplementary material showing more than 70 mrad deflection.
