Model 1: baseline model (hardship and depressive symptoms)
Model 2: model 1 + demographic characteristics (age, gender, race/ethnicity, marital status, employment status)
Model 3: model 2 + sociodemographic characteristics (education, household income)
Hardship is defined as a summary score of all 4 binary indicators listed above. The scores were dichotomized. Those with 0 or 1 hardship (reference group) were compared to those with 2 or more hardships.
