Characterization of the Pachycereus pringlei transcriptome. (a) Principal component analysis of P. pringlei developmental stages and Arabidopsis root zones and (bd) the empirical detection of gene expression shows that the transcriptional state of the P. pringlei root tip changes during development. Only 66 differentially expressed transcripts (DETs) were identified in the comparison of the Initial vs Intermediate developmental stages (b), while 873 and 1,388 DETs were identified between the Intermediate vs Terminal (b,c), and Initial vs Terminal (b,d) stages. Colors in c and d correspond to the fold change (FC): blue, FC > 4; red, 3 < FC < 4; yellow, 2 < FC < 3. In all cases, the FDR p-value was ≤0.005. IN: Initial stage; IT: Intermediate stage; TR: Terminal stage. Upregulated and downregulated refer to the expression level at the developmental stage shown in bold.
