Analysis of Injection Depth after Delivery of Metallic Microspheres into Pig Skin

Paraffin-embedded porcine skin sections microinjected with metallic microspheres were stained with H&E. Non-injected skin pieces served as controls. The upper layer of the skin, the stratum corneum (S.c.) (20–30 μm) forms a protective barrier for the underlying epidermis (E) (50–200 μm) and the following dermis (D). The arrow indicates the injection site of the beads. The injected beads were detected approximately 600 μm under the skin surface. Nuclei, blue-purple; cytoplasm, red; collagen, light pink; erythrocytes, cherry red; microspheres, brown.
