SAA1(58–104), but not SAA1(1–51), cooperates with CXCL8 in neutrophil chemotaxis. The COOH-terminal peptide SAA1(58–104) (30–3,000 ng/ml) (A) and the NH2-terminal peptide SAA1(1–51) (300–3,000 ng/ml) (B) were added in the presence or absence of CXCL8 (0.2–3 ng/ml) to the lower compartment of the Boyden microchamber to measure human neutrophil chemotaxis. The chemotactic response is expressed as the mean chemotactic index ± SEM derived from three to five independent experiments. Statistically significant cooperation, determined by the Mann–Whitney U test, is indicated by daggers (p < 0.05).
