Role of a conventional PKC in LLO-dependent entry of L. monocytogenes. Nontreated and cells treated with 0.2% DMSO, the broad spectrum (Gö6983) or conventional (GF109203x) PKC inhibitors, were infected with WT L. monocytogenes at MOI 20 for 30 min at 37°C. Cells were chemically fixed, and bacteria were fluorescently labeled to enumerate the total number of bacteria (Nt) and the number of extracellular bacteria associated with host cells (Ne). Entry efficiency was measured as 100 × [(Nt) - (Ne)]/(Nt), and results are expressed as the mean percentage entry ± SEM relative to the DMSO control.
